In light of the recent news regarding the replacement of the Mireva Bookshop with an 11-storey hotel with the possibility of an additional floor, KSU feels that it is duty-bound to take action.
KSU is in full agreement with the Planning Authority Case Officer that the project will negatively impact the area's local plan as it would be in conflict with the Strategic Plan’s aim to ensure that new developments improve the amenity of the respective area. 🏗️
The completion of the project will continue to fuel the lack of student-targeted services in the area, negatively impacting student life on campus. University will become suffocated by two major infrastructural projects that offer unaffordable and unsustainable options to students. Whilst the addition of student accommodation is necessary, this should not come at the cost of sustainability and proper infrastructural planning in line with the amenities of the respective area. 🏢
KSU therefore invites all students, staff, NGOs and the general public to join us in participating in a demonstration happening on Wednesday 7th September at 4pm on the University Quadrangle. It is time to rally as a united front to preserve student life. If it's not us, then who? 🧑🎓
We encourage you to come pick up reused cardboard for your placards from the KSU Office until 8am on the 7th of September. 🪧
