ASCS - Association of Students of Commercial Studies

The Association of Students of Commercial Studies (ASCS) is a non-profit making association, representing all the students falling under the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy (FEMA), amounting to around 2000 students. Its goal, as outlined in the statute, is to 'serve as a catalyst, to promote and enhance the student's professional presence and image through awareness in our society.'

ASCS started way back in the 1980's when FEMA was still in its infancy and commerce students were only a few. But still the need for unity and representation was felt among commerce students, mainly in having a 'say' in the direction of FEMA - and that is when ASCS was born. The mission and objectives enacted that day, although changed in words, are still fundamentally the same as todays.

In its early years ASCS was particularly successful, organizing activities and seminars on a broader scale. In fact, one particular seminar was organized on a nationwide scale with a huge number of people attending, including heads of state and other dignitaries.

The organisation has been dormant for some years and last year it was revived with new members. The new ASCS shall strive to improve the standard of commercial studies, at University and the place of work. It shall make representation to University employees, professional and other authorities, both local and foreign, connected with the commercial education.

This year ASCS is planning to organise many activities including seminars, meetings and conferences with people in the industry which will grant students inspiration and introduce them to the practical road of commerce. ASCS is also providing students with a website with up-to-date information regarding their line of studies and will be the link between the faculty and the students. Through our activities we would have the chance to promote our aims and objectives on a local and international level through effective cooperation with other student organisations throughout Europe.

Every year, the ASCS Executive changes. This year, 8 new members joined the executive, all taking different majors and all in different years. Since it has been dormant for a while, this year we wanted to attract more students to the organisation and involve them in other activities so that their studies will not only be theoretical but also practical, specializing in their area of study.
