The Examinations Report
Wednesday, 13 January 2010 22:12

The Education Commission within KSU receives a number of complaints throughout the year. Out of all the complaints, those queries about examinations are the ones that resound mostly in our ears. 70% of all complaints are in fact related to examination dates, results and resits.

This prompted the Education Commission to work on a report, based on the complaints it has received and present it to the Rectorate. The report, completed in November touches on various aspects of assessment including Assesment Weighting, Time tables, Invigilators , publication of results and plagiarism.

However the most important section of the report is perhaps the section that discusses the vital need for anonymity to be wide spread across all Faculties. The Education Commission through this report has proposed a system used by many Universities abroad by which anonymity and privacy can be assured. To quote from the report :

“A system of anonymous assessment will ensure that the students work will be regarded as separate from past experiences or knowledge about the student. It also protects the markers by increasing candidates’ faith that their assessment is NOT influenced by such factors.”

This report is not simply a proposed amendment to the Assessment Regulations 2009 which have been thought out well, but to examine in detail where there are problems, and where the problems are being ignored.

We also want to point out facts that we feel are of vital importance, and need to be tackled immediately. The easier the system becomes, the more the students can trust in the system and the more we can hope to gain out of our University. Students perform to their best ability when they know and trust that no one intends to place obstacles in their way.

The report can be downloaded from the resources section of this website. This report is a dynamic one and will be observed once again after the January examination session is over.
